Our Local Area
The Hutch is perfectly placed in mid Devon. We moved to this neck of the woods for a few reasons, but the proximity to a wonderful cathedral city, Dartmoor and fantastic beaches are the main attractions. In Longdown, we feel that we have one foot in the city, one in the country, with fingers stretching over to the moors and the sea on either side. Truly, the best of both worlds.
We are located 3 miles to the west of Exeter and 3 miles from the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Proximity to such a fabulous city and also to the wild moorland scenery. The glorious beaches of Exmouth, Teignmouth and Dawlish are about 20-30 mins drive away .
Longdown is a small, quiet village just 10 mins drive outside of Exeter. Our local pub, The Lamb at Longdown, is only a 3 min walk down the hill, albeit a 5 min walk back up the hill. It offers fantastic food served to a very high standard in a very welcoming and cosy setting. It is definitely best to bring a car, although for short stays you can get around via a country bus service which passes through the village between Moretonhampstead and Exeter, or cycle (there are some big hills) or taxi. A taxi from the city back to The Hutch in the evening is around £10-15.
As you can see from our reviews we appeal to a broad range of guests. Those wanting to get away from city life, those who love a good view, those who want a good night out in the city or those want a walk along the beach or on the moors. We can provide you with a wealth of recommendations of where we like to eat, drink, visit or experience. The photos below show some of the local sites to tempt you.
